(it would have need a complementary work on the 228x image which have tripled the time needed to have this type of collection). In fact, you have to understand this cover collection is a complete box art for SNES US versions, but not specially optimized for SNESC only. In fact, automatic resize of 690x490 pictures lead to 228x161.91 px, so 2.30/2.31 and CE round this 161.91 value to 162 px, but 2.21f (and older) don't consider the decimal value and only keep the 161 value = bad graphical result with that (dependend on the picture). If you are a 2.21f user (like me), yes, DON'T USE these covers without a manual resizing before adding to hakchi. Of course, if you also use hakchi2 CE, and want the best result, you should deactivate the automatic "compress box art" feature in any case (the compression operation is pretty rude and will degrade the flat areas), unless you really, really, want to save some memory space These covers with 2.21f << these covers with all other hakchi's versions < these covers previously resized at 228x162 (or 164 or 166) with photoshop < these covers previously resized at 228x162 (or 164 or 166) with Paint. To resume in term of best render on your UI (form very blurred to perfectly clear) : Btw, for 2.21f (and older hakchi) users (but not for 2.30 and CE users) these covers will be automatically resized to 228x161 and not to 228x162 px : this is strongly discouraged to put these covers like that, if you use one of these old hakchi versions, because an odd value to the vertical size lead to very unpleasant results (much more blurry and with, sometimes, some parasitic yellow lines). Any cover that is automatically resizing by hakchi will ALWAYS give a worse result (in term of blurriness) than if had been manually resizing before adding at the final size (no hakchi resizing operation, because it is already at 228 px = the best).Īnd the software using for this external resizing is important too : using simply MS Paint give better result than resize it with photoshop of gimp. So, resize them externally to 228x162 (or 228x160 if you prefer), and add them to hakchi. That being said, if you want the very best result on your UI with these covers, make an external resizing is a good idea. However, reduce the "natural resizing" is not often a good idea to have a final good result on the UI (whereas increasing the "natural resizing" like something to 228x166 lead to good grapical render). The difference between 228x162 images compare to 228x160 one is barely noticeable on the UI, but for consistency with original SNESC covers, you should indeed resize them at 228x160 before adding to hakchi. I hope everyone enjoys this collection of accurate box art for their SNESC it's been a fun project! All images are 690x490px and are about 3x the resolution of when hackchi resizes providing enough leeway for supersampling of the image to 228x162px. When adding with hackchi, all boxes in this project should be auto resized to 228x162 to ensure this doesn't occur and maintains the cleanest image possible. Also, the aspect ratio of the box art is slightly longer vertically than the original and the reason for that is because hackchi will make a 228x158 image creating parastic lines on the top and bottom of the box when aspect ratio is correct. i.e., Joe & Mac's yellow dots being 180% of original size, Dino City's backwards/upside down stamp, Family Feud's top purple bar as opposed to the common red on this variant box, Wheel of Fortune's reverse yellow dot spacing, and so on. Attention to detail has been paramount for this project, to the point of confirming accuracy of stamp size/placement, yellow dot placement, correct ESRB logos, color accuracy, and even the correct size/placement of the ® symbol for all Official Seal of Quality logos.ĭomino089 has been a huge help with this project, cleaning all the dirt and creases from original scans and providing image replacements of higher quality.Įverything possible has been taken into account including all the original strange oddities of the prints from back in the '90s. Here it finally is: the complete USA box art collection (plus Star Fox 2, Super Mario All-Stars + SMW custom) for your SNES classic!Īn incredible amount of effort has been put into this collection ensuring retention of accuracy to the native, original box art.
